Do you think it’s possible to describe the process of your art style, what are the does and don’t, the important aspects you set yourself to achieve your style of design?
Well my process always starts with an idea I want to work with. Sometimes it’s brought on by some amazing references I’ve stumbled across, but I usually want some intent or purpose to motivate my design process.
I start with some very loose thumbnails in my sketchpad or moleskin (sometimes in Photoshop) and brainstorming. Once I’ve done a few sketches, I move on to research and references. From there I start integrating the reference into my loose thumbnails and initial ideas, tightening up the structure and design elements and adding details. I really think about the stylization, how stylized a character or a whole design should be.
I’ve learned that if you want to see something done, do it yourself and don’t wait for anyone to validate your opinion. The only way you are going to convince anyone of what’s in your head, is if you put it down on paper yourself.
For your Designs, do you start manually the sketches or do you start straight with the software?
Why this choice?
Well it depends. I tend to make the initial sketch in my sketchbook (I prefer drawing on paper) , scan it out and fill the colour digitally. But if I have to meet the deadline in a very short time, I make the entire composition in photoshop, start with a very loose sketch. If I satisfy with the rough sketch, I clean it up and put the colours.
What products do you deliver? (Book cover, Magic the Gathering illustrations …)
I grab pretty much any kind of work as a freelance, starts from book cover, child book illustrations, album art cover,T’shirt design, concept art for film or games. But in my studio I usually work as a character designer/visual development/storyboard artist with my team on any project.
What is your dream for the next five years?
Work more, learn more. Want to work on some new exciting projects. And lastly, I really want to move out from my country and work in a reputed animation/design studio. That’s it.. I’m DONE!
Do you have any favourite artists, who may influence your art?
Ohh man, there are too many actually. It’s a toughest job to list it out. I absolutely LOVE “Creature box” designs(I think they are INSANE!!). Also I really go crazy about Sergi Brosa, Nicolas Marlet, Brett Bean, Tyler Carter, Matias Hannecke, Sean Galloway, Michael Bills, Ryan David Jones, Wouter Tulp, Edwin Rhemrev, Cory Loftis, Skottie Young, Armand Serrano, Dan Seddon, Frank Stockton, Headless Production’s work.
Where Concept art is concerned I really dig SIXMOREVODKA, Massive Black, Calum Alexander Watt, Carlo Arellano, Eytan Zana, Anthony Jones, Android Jones, Gilles Ketting, Michael kutsche, Shreya Shetty’s stuffs!
I know I missed HELL a lot of people’s names but these are the people which right now came to my mind. They are the BEST!!!
